Hmm, GHC did this, too, in the beginning.  The "batteries included"  
scheme broke down when critical mass was reached: more and more  
libraries, not all of which would pass QA (with release impediments),  
and more Haskell implementations becoming available.

OTOH, it appears to work for python and ruby...
