So did the last pope--he had some really confused ideas on what
"emptiness" (shunyata) was. And he wrote about it in his book. IIRC
Rat-slinger was essentially the head of what used to called "the
inquisition". As Buddhism has become more popular, he has helped groups
such as Opus Dei fund anti-Dalai Lama books, e.g. the notorious "Shadow
of the Dalai Lama" which is now available (thanks to them) free on the
internet. It first appeared in German and was later translated into
other languages. It is written in a compelling academic and detective
style that really makes you believe what it is saying, but is has the
accuracy of a bad National Enquirer expose. The site that presents it
is a known Opus Dei cover, complete with ex-Buddhists who left the evil
of the Dalai Lama behind them. I even read a recent blog of a guy
claiming to be going insane from psychic attacks from his holiness. It
would have been a hoot if it just wasn't so weird.

I'm sure there's more to come.

Either way, the inquisition is back. This time the German one is the
one to watch.
