Judy, Since you pointed this out to me I've listened to it a few times. I think he is saying "Dyou think I'd do that?". I think he was referring to playing in a traditional Delta style rather than his usual psychedelic blues rock. I really dig Jimi, but what he played is great as much from the tradition he is drawing from than his own execution. I'll bet he would be the first to say that. These licks are traditional patterns. Very tasteful, very restrained, but not in any way original. Even his tuning, C is an old school tuning, a real tribute to the past. He tuned down to facilitate string bending. At first I was thinking that Jimi was saying that he was channeling the music. That he was not involved. Since I know he was a spiritually minded guy that made some sense. But I don't think that is his point here. He was opening up a can of old school blues wup ass and delighting in it being a surprise. As this is the only clip I know of with Jimi paying acoustic it was a real surprise. I love the guy. I know the shoulders he was standing on playing this piece. What makes our hair stand on end is the real acoustic Delta blues IMO. Jimi did that tradition justice. He also nuked it all in the fire of his original playing when he played electric. Perhaps this isn't what you meant at all, but I think the youtube comment was implying this more mystical take on his statement. --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, "curtisdeltablues" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, "authfriend" <jstein@> wrote: > > > > --- In FairfieldLife@yahoogroups.com, "curtisdeltablues" > > <curtisdeltablues@> wrote: > > <snip> > > > To play Jimi you have to do what Jimi > > > did, master the Delta blues in it's most primitive form.
