Excellent historical series as well & on our PBS stations. I have not found
a historical flaw in the series re our 1 St civil war, between the Empress
Maud rightful heir & King Stephen. I also agree on a par with, The Name of the
Rose.

We've talked about other favorite TV series here,
but one that I don't think has come up is Cadfael.
Anyone else here a fan?

For the uninitiated, Cadfael was an ITV production
of a TV series based on the popular Brother Cadfael
novels by Ellis Peters (Edith Pargeter). As novels,
these stories often border on the masterful; on the
TV screen they often do as well, thanks mainly to
the amazing Derek Jacobi. You might remember him
and his acting ability from I, Claudius, arguably
one of the best television series ever created.

In this series, Derek Jacoby gets to play a Welsh
monk living in an English Benedictine Abbey. Brother
Cadfael is a monk with a past -- he was a Crusader
in the Middle East, and has both lived life fully
and taken life away. He's one of the most complex
and wonderful characters I have ever encountered in
spiritual literature, easily on a par with his
fellow Benedictine Brother William of Baskerville
in The Name of the Rose.

If you're at all drawn to wondering what life would
be like in a Benedictine monastery in 1135 for a
person with sensibilities not unlike some of the
seasoned seekers on Fairfield Life, this is the TV
series for you. Plus, each episode is a murder
mystery. What is not to like about that?
