The shows from the new TV season I've seen, and what I think of them. As if what I think matters.
True Blood -- Strong candidate for best new show of the season. An absolute winner. Sookie and Bill are the new hot couple of the airwaves. I've seen 3 episodes now, and it just keeps getting better. Sookie is just a trip. Life On Mars US -- Strong candidate for Suckiest Remake Of A Great British TV Series Ever. Total loser. Worst casting ever, by someone who completely missed the point of the original characters. Colm Meaney is occasionally a fine actor, but he misses Gene Hunt by a mile. Pass on this one and have your DVD player hacked so that it'll play Region 2 disks and order the original two British seasons from Amazon.uk. And if this travesty is a success in the US and they start to talk about making a US version of the sequel, Ashes To Ashes, hire a hit man and have the perpetrators taken out. The world will thank you. Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles -- So far (one episode, a great season opener), better than last year. Summer Glau has a bigger and more dynamic role and, let's face it, the only reason we're watching is Summer Glau. We all know what's going to happen to John and Sarah Connor, so their story is of no interest. But Summer as a Terminator who is beginning to have faith and believe in resurrection but is willing to forego it to protect John...well, that's interesting. Great new villain, too. Californication -- I would watch Natascha McElhone in a soap commercial. Getting to see her in a well- written and acted satirical drama is just gravy. Great supporting cast, too, even that porn-addicted guy. :-) Very funny stuff. Dexter -- Our favorite charming, lovable serial killer is back, facing something more scary for him than getting caught. Mad Men -- More of the same. I guess you either like these slices of bourgeois life from a 60s ad agency or you don't. I'm beginning to realize that I don't. Fringe -- Hasn't finished downloading yet, but I don't expect much from it. House -- Next week. Looking forward to it.
