I think I understand the "point" of the "vedic literature" far better than you do. It was created by an elitist shaman class to wow and impress the naive, superstitious, not-terribly- bright proles of that age into believing that the elitist shaman class was somehow "special," and knew things that the naive, superstitious, not- terribly-bright proles didn't. As a result, the naive, superstitious, not-terribly-bright proles gave the elitist shamans all of their power and most of their money. Centuries later, the same tactic works on naive, superstitious, not-terribly-bright proles in this era, who buy into the same routine and give new generations of elitist shamans all their power and most of their money. And who actually consider themselves "scientific" and "rational" as they do it.
