* * Ha! Reminds me of my ancestors, whose diseases wiped out the native
population in New England the early 1600s. My ancestors were also
poverty-stricken, completely unprepared for the New England winters, but
fortunately survived (in part) by scavenging the stores left behind by all the
Indians who had "by God's grace" died of European smallpox (etc.) shortly
before. Whether my ancestors were "illegal" is debatable -- "unwelcome" is
certain -- but they certainly weren't properly screened!

I doubt Ravi speaks Spanish....(in case you didn't know, it's the second most
spoken language *in these parts*).

 * * Not too surprising, as the Spanish owned the entire area before we took it
from them. The Mexican War was by all accounts a pretty immoral one, if not
downright illegal -- there was a *lot* of controversy about it at the time, as
to the New England contingent it appeared to be prosecuted primarily to give
the South more slave-holding territory.
