The only difference between the Law of Fives and scientific theories is that scientific theories have "excess explanatory power" -that is, they can predict stuff not inherent in the formulation of the theory. The point of the book, _Not Even Wrong_ is basically that superstring theories ARE exercises in the Law of Fives: they can't be used to predict testable phenomena. L
