This quote is often referenced hereabouts. I'm afraid it doesn't float my boat. Back, back in the day might it not have "agreed with your reason and your own common sense" that the Sun goes round the Earth? Then again, if you do agree with the sentiment of the quote, isn't the *worst* way to make your point to wheel out a quote from an authority (Buddha)? And is it a fake quote anyway? http://www.fakebuddhaquotes.com/believe-nothing-no-matter-where-you-read-it/ "Now, Kalamas, don't go by reports, by legends, by traditions, by scripture, by logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies, by agreement through pondering views, by probability, or by the thought, 'This contemplative is our teacher.' When you know for yourselves that, 'These qualities are skillful; these qualities are blameless; these qualities are praised by the wise; these qualities, when adopted & carried out, lead to welfare & to happiness' then you should enter & remain in them." i.e. Do *not* acquiesce in the infallibilty of your own reasoning (logical conjecture, by inference, by analogies). And perhaps throttle back on the epistemological narcissism and pay due heed to the "wise"!
