Pretty much what you might imagine, were you to imagine what Quentin Tarantino would do with the genre of Westerns.
Bloody, violent, at times hilariously funny, and definitely not for most of the TM wussies. But if you've got a love of movies, there are more subtle references and homages to them in this movie than you can count, and some quite fine performances by Jamie Foxx, Christoph Waltz, Leonardo DiCaprio (really), Kerry Washington, and Samuel L. Jackson. Probably more instances of the N word in this one film than there were instances of the F word in the whole series of "Deadwood," and that's really saying something. But it's a movie about slavery in America, in the period just before its Civil War, so the language is more than appropriate.
