It was a "Have you stopped beating your wife?"
question.  You gave only two options, neither
of which I agree with.  I could only answer by
proposing more options.

The goal -- whatever it is -- is irrelevant to
how one creates or fails to create right means
to achieve it.  The achievement or non-achieve-
ment of the goal is irrelevant, only how well
one lives one's life in the pursuit of it.
