Interestingly Kenneth Arnold (who started the whole thing off) didn't see flying saucers. He saw objects that flew like a "saucer skipped across water" A keen-eyed journalist made the name out of that. Interesting how many people saw saucers after that though, but Arnold actually saw nine highly reflective, crescent shaped craft with a wedge shaped tail flying erratically in a line. Sounds uncannily like a flock of pelicans, which are common in the area.
