FWIW, it's interesting to read some of the comments on
this from ultra-Orthodox women readers, including that
the article was published in a magazine that takes an
unfriendly stance toward the ultra-Orthodox; and that
they have never personally heard of a woman having
trouble becoming pregnant because of this rule. Also,
they say rabbis do their best to find solutions that
are caused by the conflict between two Halachic rules
(in this case, the menstrual thing versus the *much*
more important commandment to "be fruitful and
multiply"). So there's more than one view on this.
