That's how MMY defines it (if it's permanent); "witnessing" can apply to temporary experiences (CC being 24-hour permanent witnessing). It's a "symbol," but for a very specific experience. I don't see that your four- letter job is any better, as long as we know what the definition of "CC" is. That's all I'm saying.
