So we see that the Jhanas are not only at the heart of his teaching, but also were at the heart of his own practise. EVEN SO, ALL EIGHT JHANAS WERE STILL NOT ENOUGH. THE BUDDHA'S "BREAKTHROUGH" TRANSPIRED ONLY AFTER HE HAD "SURPASSED" THE EIGHTH AND FINAL JHANA!! HIS AWAKENING DID NOT OCCUR "IN" THE EIGHTH JHANA BUT "BEYOND" IT.
