"folk" believe it because those particular folk
have a kind of idealism and gullibility that can not be
faulted for intention but for the simplistic naivete of of
it. Desiring world peace is not a bad thing but thinking
that, for all the evidence otherwise, that this ME thing
works starts to become denial and a sort of lunacy. But
then, there a lots of lunatics of all sorts who surround us
that are far scarier.

Peace is a fiction in the minds of those who hope for a
better world but are, unfortunately, lacking the skill and
knowledge to make it a better one. I believe it is held by
those who are older, perhaps more desperately idealistic
and
who have maybe run out of other ideas which could make
this
world more peaceful and less entropic. It all starts with
yourself and in the dealings with those around you. Start
small, make it all count from how you say "good
morning" to someone to how you give them that last
kiss
or hug at night.
