From what I've read of her, she can be vicious too, remarkably like the attacks
on TMers by some of the TM critics here on FFL.

What is most fascinating is to Google her name + "criticism" and read some of
the many attacks on her from fundamentalist Hindus. They sound remarkably like
the attacks on TM critics here on FFL, only more vicious.

That is an excellent article. Thank you for posting it. I want to get a copy
of her Breaking the Spell of Dharma and Other Essays.

Meera Nanda's book is titled "Prophets Facing Backwards." I've always thought
that this was a perfect description of Maharishi's teachings.

For those who are not familiar with this real scientist (microbiologist) turned
philosopher of science and critic of those who seek to move India and the world
away from science and back to religion-based ignorance and superstition, here's
a good essay from 2005. This was, of course, written before the return to
ignorance became a fait accompli in India with the recent election of a Hindu
Nationalist Prime Minister. I just can't wait to hear what she has to say about
him. :-)

Hindu nationalists, like U.S. evangelicals, are co-opting their nation's
culture and calling bad science good.
