The one child policy should not cause problems because over time the needed GDP will shrink too. Seems conventional economists look at things halfway.

A few years ago, China tried to reduce its population growth by limiting families to one child. If they reduce the population growth too much, they could end up with another problem-- which is the lack of trained people to maintain their economic advances.
