S3raphita, you raise some cool points. The first thing that came to my mind was
the whole melatonin issue. I think melatonin is somehow connected to eye and
skin color. Maybe it's also connected to brain cells that have to do with
cooperating. What I'm saying is that it might not be genetic, but it still
might be closely related to something physical, that is, chemical or structural.
Along these lines I've sometimes wondered if psychopaths and sociopaths, people
who can't relate to the suffering of others, might simply be deficient in what
some call mirror neurons.

I admit I like the idea that all sorts of psychological problems are very based
in the physical.

Ugh! The "funny" thing is, turq, after I pressed Send, I had a fleeting thought

That's right - so Scandinavian countries score highest on best places to live
and lowest on corruption. But why? The worrying thought (unless you're a Nazi)
might be that there is a *genetic* link. Blond, blue-eyed, Nordic ubermensch =
public probity and social cohesion. Let's fervently pray that that's not the
case and the explanation is sociological. So can we start nudging our societies
in the same direction please? And that means tackling social inequality.
The map shows western and northern Europe, Australia/New Zealand and North
America and Japan are the "cleanest" places to live. (I see Botswana gets a
decent score - wonder what they are doing right to buck the trend of their
African neighbours.) With the exception of Japan all the places are western
European or former European colonies. As Jim Morrison said "The West is the
best".

You must have very healthy eyes (-:

Share, perhaps this will help you understand why many here have concerns about
your intelligence.

Had you bothered to *read* the explanation at the top of the chart, you might
found this sentence: "A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived
level of publicsector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very
clean)."
Therefore all those at the top of the chart are the *least* corrupt. Get it now?
If you had followed your normal pattern, you would have run around telling
everyone you encountered on the Internet how corrupt all those countries at the
top of the chart are. Did the color-coded map at the top of the page not tip
you off -- red for corrupt, and yellow for less corrupt?

Eyeroll.

John, talk about thought stoppers! These rankings have me gobsmacked. Because
of the presence of so many Scandinavian countries in the top ten. Why? Because
very often those are the very same countries that are in the top ten of the
best places to life! Go figure indeed...

It's not good to see that the US is ranked 17 on this list.
