Donovan to Perform in Fairfield During Fairfest

1960’s music legend Donovan will be performing in Fairfield in September during
his “Sunshine Superman Fiftieth Anniversary North American Tour.” The tour
celebrates the 50th anniversary of the singer’s hit single “Sunshine Superman”
reaching #1 on the Billboard charts.

Donovan is regarded as one of the most influential songwriters and recording
artists working today. Audiences during the tour will be treated to Donovan’s
history of hits, including “Sunshine Superman,” “Mellow Yellow,” and “Hurdy
Gurdy Man.”

The 50th Anniversary tour will honor an artist whose fingerprints can be seen
throughout the last half-century of popular music. “I am delighted to be going
on tour throughout North America, to thank all who have followed my work from
the beginning — and all who have just discovered me now,” said Donovan.

Donovan learned the Transcendental Meditation® technique from Maharishi Mahesh
Yogi in Los Angeles, and then in 1968 he journeyed to Rishikesh, India, along
with the members of the Beatles, for advanced studies in consciousness. He has
been an enthusiastic supporter of the David Lynch Foundation and he accompanied
Mr. Lynch on several international tours to bring the Transcendental Meditation
technique to thousands of schoolchildren.

A percentage of the proceeds from the tour will support the “Donovan Children’s
Fund” — a division of the David Lynch Foundation — which will help bring
Transcendental Meditation to tens of thousands of at-risk students in
underserved schools throughout the United States.

Donovan was invited to perform in Fairfield by Bill Goldstein, MUM Dean of
Global Development and General Counsel, and the Fairfield concert is a benefit
event for MUM’s Global Scholarship Fund, providing scholarships to MUM for
international students who graduated from schools where the David Lynch
Foundation introduced the Quiet Time program.

“Donovan has very generously donated his time to participate in the fundraiser,
and he has been a longtime generous friend of the University,” said Steve
Langerud, Deputy Director of Global Development at MUM. “We are so grateful for
his time, energy, and support for what we are doing for these students.”

“We are honored that Donovan is visiting Fairfield for the fifth time,” said
event producer Michael Sternfeld. “We are delighted to have him back because
everyone in the community adores him. He is one of many notable figures and
celebrities coming here to speak and perform in support of the growth of MUM.”

Donovan will perform two concerts on Sunday night, September 4th, during
Fairfest — Fairfield’s premiere 3-day annual music festival

The first concert, at 8 PM, is a full solo acoustic concert indoors in the
Sondheim Theater, featuring all of Donovan’s greatest hits. Then Donovan will
perform a shorter encore set outdoors on the Fairfest Main Stage at 9:30 PM,
backed by the nationally-known Celtic folk band, Bonnie Paine & Friends.
