Here's an interesting chart from the Gallup Poll, beginning in 1969, showing that for recent history, the period Clinton was president, until Bush took over, there was increasing satisfaction with the direction of the country. Then under Bush, eight years steadily downhill, with a low of seven percent satisfaction at the end of Bush's second term, with some improvement now under Obama.
To address the high numbers of dissatisfied citizens, the last thing people want is to entrust the might and security of the United States to someone learning on the fly, as Trump would be.
