Yeah, and if one writes it like "vo:ks", it's quite near to Sanskrit "vaak". Furthermore, I think there are at least two different possible pronunciations for the 'c' in the inflected forms of "vox". For instance accusative "vocem" is nowadays pronounced either like "vo:chem" or "vo:kem".
