Michener's comment at the end tells the community what they have to look forward to and they have every right to have fear. A small, traditionally conservative, Midwestern community is  getting ready to be taken over by  outsider, liberal, leftist,Hollywood, freaky, cultist types that will take control of their city and county governments and will start dictating to these people how they will live.
