I heard that MMY had a "direct inspiration" from Gurudev to start teaching. That's quite vague, compared to "saw a vision." It also doesn't make sense given MMY's apparently beliefs about how higher states of consciousness work. As far as I can tell, he believes that the images and statues of the devas are allegorical more than faithful visual representations of them.
