dvaa suparNaa sayujaa sakhaayaa samaanam; vRkSam; pari Sasvajaate
tayoH; anyaH pippalam svaadu; atti; anashnan; anyaH; abhi caakashiiti
Ralph Griffith's translation:
Two birds with fair wings, knit with bonds of friendship, in the same
sheltering tree have found a refuge. One of the twain eats the sweet
Fig-tree's fruitage; the other eating not regardeth only.
Two birds with fair wings (dvaa suparNaa: two fair-winged ones), knit with (sayujaa) bonds of friendship (sakhaayaa), in the same (samaanam)
sheltering tree (vRkSam) have found a refuge (pari Sasvajaate). One (anyaH: other) of the twain (tayoH) eats (atti) the sweet (svaadu)
fig-tree's fruitage (pippalam) ; the other (anyaH) eating not (an-ashnan) regardeth (caakashiiti) only.
