That's why it's an honest place, Shemp. It's on a
bit of a different level than that.

The women themselves are all beautiful (of course),
but most are well-educated, and many have careers
as consultants or scientists, and do their gig in
the evenings at Yab Yum because they want to retire
at 30. It's the kinda place where your neighbors at
the bar may be princes or the Rolling Stones. To
even get in the door cost a $100-200 cover charge,
with the cost of "going upstairs" being more like
$300-500 an hour.

I never indulged "upstairs." I had done a favor for
the owner of the club (teaching his son to meditate
and thus end a long drug habit), so I had a "free
pass" to go there for free anytime I wanted. But I
also had a girlfriend whom I cared about deeply, so
in a way it really was as if I were being celibate
in a whorehouse. :-) And although you probably won't
believe it, it really *was* a very honest place.
There was none of the pretense and posturing that
one would normally find in a nightclub, where
everyone is there lookin' to get laid, but no
one is honest enough to admit it.

(Interestingly enough, it was also probably a *safer*
place than a nightclub, in terms of AIDS and other
diseasees. Nothing happened there without a condom,
and the prostitutes themselves had to be tested every
month to be able to ply their trade.)

It was the kinda place where people would come with
their wives or girlfriends, just to enjoy a drink
and the decor and listen to the music. The Dutch are
far more comfortable with their sexuality than
Americans are.
