For the Female who is going to carry the genes, it's the Quality that matters.  She wants to have the best possible genes for her offspring so that it has a better chance of survival.
 
    For the Male, it's the Quantity that matters.  He wants to spread his genes far and wide.  As much as possible.  It's called the 'Coolidge effect'.
 
    These aspects evolved over millions of years, Sir Kirk.
