Unfortunately, it is untrue. The mantras all come from ancient tantric traditions and are related to the gods they are associated with up to this day. TM mantras are not vedic, they are tantric. Be rather leery of anyone who tells you otherwise. There's a common myth in the TMO that TM mantras are "Vedic" (or I've even heard people claim they were from the Rig Veda!). It's simply untrue.
