Alexis de Tocqueville, French historian & political scientist, 1805-1859, Part 1
Life is to entered upon with courage. The Americans combine the notions of religion and liberty so intimately in their minds, that it is impossible to make them conceive of one without the other. When the past no longer illuminates the future, the spirit walks in darkness. The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. America is great because she is good. If America ceases to be good, America will cease to be great. Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith. --------------------------------- Discover Yahoo! Stay in touch with email, IM, photo sharing & more. Check it out!
