Are you using 3.0? A friendly url is a path like "/go/subdir/htmlpage" that is associated with a particular object. You can view them on the dmHTML overview page - clicking on Show Current Friendly URL will show you what FU's are already mapped to the page, manage will allow you to add and remove them.

The html stored in the dmHTML tag does not get executed by ColdFusion, only outputed directly. Find the page you want to link to, and click on Show Current Friendly URL. Use this to link to the object instead of index.cfm ?ob.... This is good because you can move the FU mapping to a different page later if you want, and then all the links to that FU will go to the new page.

can u confirm what you are referring to when you say "friendly URL"?

In the editor, i'm trying to edit the link throught the html mode. I'm
trying to add the following to the href tag
" index.cfm?objectID=#application.navid.aliasMyAlias#"  The problem that is
arising is that the pound (#) are not being rendered correctly and the alias
is notbeing outputted.  For now i have the objectID hardcoded but would
prefer not to do this
