Got this working to a point.

puts the navigation into the correct frame, am able to drag the html item into a text box. But
right click takes the user to the properties page of that nav page and obviously the right click and inset option is not available, any assistance would be much appreciated

Mark, if that's what you're after (to be able to treat a news item like an html item) you can extend dmNews so that it will appear in the Right Click Nav Item->Insert-> menu on the site tab. The farcry wiki has some information.

Basically what mark is looking for is the ability while editing a News
item, to be able to right click on a node in the site tree adn click,
"Insert" so tht a user could easily link to some content in the site
tree. This should be common functionality since many news items will
simply be highlights to new sections of a web site, and a way for users
to easily insert links is desirable.
right now, there is no way whil editing the body of a dmNews item to
even see the site tree, while in the last version, if I rememebr
correctly, you were allowed to click site and the tree would come up
instead of the custom admin navigation.
