You may be looking at this to difficult.  If your reason for doing this is
to have different stylesheets might I suggest using dmCSS (and importCSS
custom tag on the frontend).  FarCry has your requested feature already
built-in (unless I am misunderstanding you).

Here is a Breeze demo from Geoff Bowers a couple years ago that explains it
being used in FarCry 2.x (its changed very little since the video.. just a
few new options).
