There is no way to turn off the comment step.  Its both a comment and
a confirmation step.

If you want to remove versioning that is relatively easy, although its
going to make updating a little more cumbersome.  You'll need to copy
the content type in question to your project and change the "extends"
attribute to point to ".types.types" rather than ".types.versions"
