Yes you are missing something - perhaps you are mixing it up with BlueDragon.Net (which is not open source, and runs only on IIS). OpenBD is fully open source, under the GPL license. It runs on any compliant J2EE server/servlet engine - people seem to mostly deploy it on Jetty and Tomcat though (both are open source). Both under linux, as well as on Windows. And other operating systems too, I suppose.
