We have just implemented LDAP, however we had to extend the default
LDAP plugin as it doesn't go far enough for us.

First it expects all the users to be in a particular node in the LDAP
tree. We have a complex and large tree with several thousand users,
and we need it to search subtree for user accounts. This isn't
possible in the plugin. Additionally we wanted the server to connect
to our LDAP servers over SSL, so we had to make changes for this as
well, as again the default LDAP plugin does not support it.

If this is the type of thing you are wanting to do let me know and
I'll let you know how we did it!

Colin.
