Thanks Chris. Problem didn't seem to be specific to just my formtool. If you go into the User Account area as well you'll see that the Root Node is showing and nothing else so it's definately a bug in the core.
See what you're saying about the code though so I'll do a bit of looking into that one, well spotted ;-).
