In what context? I'm not aware that we used the phrase "type classes".

A class is in effect a content type. "type classes" sounds a bit like
a tautology.

Custom Content Type and Content Type are exactly the same.  The prefix
of Custom is typically assigned to content types that are not part of
the core distribution ie. are custom to your implementation.
