Your hosts file entry won't have any effect on the rewrite working or not
working - if you can browse to the site at all then your hosts file is
fine. Hosts file entries simply show your PC look look up the IP address of
a host name, out doesn't do any "redirection".

Can you paste some example URLs that work, and some that don't? It doesn't
matter that I won't be able to browse to them, I just need to see the
examples to work out what is going on.
