I think for a first cut we should keep it as simple as possible. First hits
to the dashboard (especially after logging in) need to be fast. A dashboard
needs to give you a few quick pieces of info about the application and then
help you get on with doing what you need to do. For example, show the user
a small amount of their recent activity, a few quick stats from GA (just a
single "card"?), a few helpful links, done?

Plugins, particularly Google Analytics, could have their own additional
dashboard pages. Of course you'd still want some kind of summary stats on
the initial dashboard (e.g. visits / pageviews today, or # of current
visitors), but a full page would be more useful for placing graphs for
weekly / monthly data.

For some of the heavier things involving workflow maybe they also deserve
their own pages. When you look at content pending approval, scheduled
content, content to be reviewed, etc, these are basically like mini
reports. You could also include other reports - some of which may already
exist in some form - like security audits (last X logins, last X failed
logins, ..), and a developer specific dashboard - slightly different to the
existing "sys info" - it could do flight checks on FU's, refobjects, object
broker stats, webskin caching stats/info, other application health stuff,
etc. This would also let us bring some things out of hiding from the
various depths of the webtop navigation structure :)

cheers,
Justin
