Bart, sorry but I had not been using your latest patches. I downloaded your latest patched kernel sources dated 3 days ago (so I'm hopefully current now!) and tested with them. The 4DOS error disappeared, and all my drivers but XMSDSK work now, but only without UMBs and when everything (even the kernel itself) is loaded low (with XMS). When UMB and HMA loading are enabled, there is no crash (which by itself is a big achievement! ;-) but the installed block device drivers don't work and on attempt to access their drives, bad code message appears from the kernel, although (amazingly!) it doesn't crash even then! So, I suspect some incompatibility with FDXXMS.SYS or something else, or maybe some hidden bugs in the kernel (after all, this is an imtermediate "unofficial" version). If I manage to discover something more determined, I will let you know. Thanks!
