The Bay Area Video Coalition is looking for an experienced Web Developer 
with strong back-end development skills to help build a Digital Asset 
Management system using Fedora Commons. Other projects may be assigned 
as needed. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

The developer will design and integrate web based user interface 
components and maintain, configure, and customize functional aspects of 
Fedora Commons to build our open source Digital Asset Management 
program. The developer will work with BAVC staff and the external 
programming team to design, develop, test and administer user interfaces 
for the video repository. This person will also test and troubleshoot 
the interactivity and functionality of the user interface with 
repository users.

In addition, the developer may be asked to support other internal 
applications and functions as needed and basic systems troubleshooting 
as a backup.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or relevant field; advanced degree 
preferred
3-5 years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience developing applications using Java
Development experience with relational database management systems 
(MySQL, Postgres, etc.) and digital repositories (Fedora Commons preferred)
Demonstrated knowledge of Apache, Tomcat , XML, XSLT, RDF, OWL  and 
RESTful application development.
Extensive experience with scripting languages: JavaScript, PHP, Perl, 
Ruby, Ruby on Rails, etc
Experience with Web services technologies (SOAP/WSDL)
Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment with basic knowledge of 
system administration and networking
Excellent communication and analytical skills
Ability to work well independently, as part of a team and with little 
supervision
Bachelor's degree in computer or information science and 3 years of 
relevant experience or equivalent combination
Familiarity with video file formats and packages, video encoding 
standards, and metadata standards
Familiarity with the OAIS reference model for open archival information 
systems
Experience with digitization projects involving library and digital 
library metadata and standards, e..g. METS, MODS, Dublin Core, PREMIS.
Experience with Blacklight, SOLR and JHOVE
