+1 for github
MediaShelf has used both mercurial/bitbucket and git/github in the past 2
years. Eventually we migrated everything to github. As you said, the
differences between hg and git are miniscule. In fact, I mildly prefer hg in a
couple of ways, but not enough to push me to favor one over the other. Our
decision to switch was mostly motivated by github.
Strengths of GitHub:
* substantial traction -- it's quickly becoming a replacement for sourceforge.
Also gets great google rank for your project.
* simple, intuitive web interface -- I especially enjoy the fact that it
renders your README file on the homepage (with markup!), gives you a "network"
view showing all the forks of your project, and makes it easy to explore
through all of the commit history.
I have also come to appreciate the ample documentation out there for git --
even the crazy edge cases are documented somewhere online. (FYI - Stackoverflow
is a particularly good source for answers to git questions.)
