network and support profiles, although see the O'reilly Tomcat book:

for some enlightening comparisons between APR and the native Java Tomcat
connectors. The surprising result is that in many situations, APR is _not_
faster than a well-supported pure-Java configuration.
As an example, we use neither-- we reverse-proxy our Fedora services through an
httpd cluster using a virtual host and AJP connectors (which requires
mod_proxy_ajp on the cluster).
