I recently installed Fedora on Centos Linux 5.5, using an existing
Tomcat 6 installed from the RPM package. I struck a problem with the
install because the installer program assumed the existence of a
"common/lib" folder under $CATALINA_HOME, which was not present. I found
the SourceForge ticket for this bug, and I added a comment there
<https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/FCREPO-783?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels%3Acomment-tabpanel#issue-tabs>,

but I'd like to repeat the question I raised there: why does the JDBC
driver have to be installed as a "common" JAR? i.e. why is not under
webapps/fedora/WEB-INF/lib, and loaded via the webapp's own
class-loader? It seems to me that this would be simpler and more reliable.
