The same capability is still available and is called a "service".
However, how custom services are implemented has changed as part of the
new Content Model Architecture. This is described in the documentation
which can be viewed at:
http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/display/FCR30/Fedora+Repository+3.2.1+Documentation

(for convenience here is a tiny link
http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/x/AgAU ). One of the best
resources are the "demo" objects which are shipped with the download and
can be ingested into a test repository. They are found in the
client/demo directory after installation. Also you will want to look at
the the local service web applications.

The documentation about services is slowly being improved but the
information is in the Wiki. To get the overall picture read the section
on Digital Objects and the CMA. In particular I suggest you look at the
CMA Construction Guide at
http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/display/FCR30/Fedora+Digital+Objects
. A good source on the demo objects is
http://fedora-commons.org/confluence/display/FCR30/Demonstration+Objects .

It is best to send your questions to the
[email protected] mailing list if you want the
quickest and best answers. There are many people using this list who
are constructing custom services for their projects.
