Also, Fedora 3.3 includes a new security implementation (FeSL) as an 
experimental option that uses JAAS for authentication. So you might have a look 
at re-using existing JAAS/Shib efforts, e.g. 
http://wiki.oss-watch.ac.uk/ShibbolethTomcatIntegration (which I haven't looked 
at).
