Hi, Gill. For our somewhat complex objects here at ICPSR (i.e., social
science research datasets + documentation + survey instruments +
"study"-level aggregate objects), I've been using the RELS-TXT Datastream
(so RDF/XML) to record the relationships between the objects. That seems to
be working reasonably well so far.

I've posted some examples and comments at
https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/DEV/ICPSR+Content+Models+for+Social+Science+data

Of course, our objects are considerably different than digital books. But
maybe the working example will be helpful?

Best of luck in your project!
