John, There has been work done work done by myself and the folks at Northwestern University to connect Plone to Fedora. My personal work is centered on using the Fedora REST API while the work at Northwestern is centered on accessing Fedora through JCR. Neither is ready for public consumption yet, but should be ready for beta use in early fall.
There is an experimental version of a Python binding for FEDORA described at https://wiki.duraspace.org/display/FEDORACREATE/PyFedoREST. The source for the latest version is available from https://fedora-commons.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/fedora-commons/incubator/restapi-clients/trunk/PyFedoREST/ thoough it is still not "foolproof".
