I don't think the grub-install command is running. When I run it excluding the verbose option it returns the message

"No suitable drive was found in the generated device map"

Maybe that is why the folder doesn't exist or has not been created yet.

you can try 'grub-install -v /dev/sdb' and then for sdc and sdd - the
thinking is that the device order is different when you boot from DVD
and when you don't.

If that fails, you might want to post the contents
of /boot/grub/grub.conf
