Note for this one the
evtchn module has become xen-evtchn so any scripts that load modules
might need to be changed.
This is the one thing that tripped me up. I made these changes and can now
get a clean boot (not having to modprobe xen-evtchn):
I believe the latest build of xen (currently in updates-testing, though I
suspect it will be in stable soon) does this as well.
